Spectacular Maniototo - 8 hrs
$195.00 per person (Please note; A minimum of 4 people ($780.00) are required for this tour)
For those wishing to relax & enjoy the spectacular scenery.
We depart Dunedin and travel over Three Mile Hill taking in stunning views of the Taieri Plains as we head toward Outram. Continuing through the magnificent Taieri Gorge area, on the way to the small township of Middlemarch where the Otago Central Rail Trail starts (or ends).
We follow the Trail through the Maniototo district, and the small town of Waipiata, and then on to the Art deco township of Ranfurly for lunch (additional to Tour cost) . There will be time to wander around some of the Art deco and craft shops in the town.
After lunch we travel through to historic St Bathans township featuring the beautiful Blue Lake and famous Vulcan Hotel. The Vulcan was built about 1889 and is reputed to be haunted. A film crew claimed to have encountered the ghost and were sufficiently frightened to leave without completing their filming ........ never to return.
From St Bathans we travel through to Naseby which, at 2000ft above sea level, is the highest town in New Zealand. In approx 1863 gold was discovered in the area, and much of the town centre has been preserved from this era, and is often referred to as the 'Jewel of the Maniototo'.
From Naseby we travel back via the Pigroot & Palmerston, onto State Highway 1, and return along the coast, with spectacular views over the City as we enter Dunedin from the Northern Motorway.
